Derek A Bardowell

Derek Bardowell writes a blog for Basketball 24/7 and is a guest critic for BBC Radio Five Live. He is the former Music Editor of The Voice newspaper, and has contributed to MTV Base, NME, Time Out, The Fader, and The Source. Bardowell worked on a four part series on the history of hip-hop called Wrap Your Head Round Rap for BBC World Service, and contributed to the Companion to Contemporary Black British Culture (Routledge).

Bardowell was the Director of Education for the Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust (2006-2009) and was an Executive Committee member of Goldsmith College’s Race in the Modern World Conference (2009). In 2007, he organised an exhibition at No.10 Downing Street celebrating diversity in architecture. Bardowell is currently a member of the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment’s Inclusion By Design group.

    I’m sorry but I missed your history of hip-hop on World Service. Could you please define hip-hop – I’ve been wondering since 2007, Regards, Honora Edwards .
